Why Turkey is right in demanding the end to occupation in Karabakh
In order to continue the “normalization” of Turkey-Armenia relations, it has become the major stipulation to bring the protocols signed in Zurich, Oct. 10, onto the agenda of the two parliaments.
There are reports that in the meetings held in Washington on April 12-13, Prime Minister Recep Erdoğan faced pressures to immediately bring the Zurich protocols onto the agenda of the Turkish Parliament. Some media outlets in the West and Turkey have strongly criticized Erdoğan for linking the “normalization” of Turkey-Armenia relations to the stipulation “to release Karabakh from occupation” and thus, “blocking up” the way of the process. While assessing from several aspects the stipulation “to release Karabakh from occupation” in the process of the “normalization” of Turkey-Armenia relations, we see that Prime Minister Erdoğan’s statement in the Azerbaijani parliament on May 13, 2009, is in line with the principles of the international law and human rights. Fickle Armenian lobby not so powerful
News.Az interviews Dr Adil Baguirov, managing director and co-founder of the US Azeris Network (USAN).

Azerbaijani-Americans Celebrate The 91st Anniversary of the Lineration of Baku by Joint Turkish-Azerbaijani Forces
Today, Azerbaijanis celebrate the 91st anniversary of an important event in the history of independent Azerbaijani statehood – the liberation of the city of Baku to become the capital of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), the first secular and democratic establishment in the Muslim and Turkic world.
Upon the proclamation of ADR on May 28, 1918, nation’s largest city Baku was under the control of Bolshevik-led Baku Soviet headed by Stepan Shahumyan. For the two preceding months, the forces of Baku Soviet, allied with irregular armed units of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation “Dashnaktsutiun”, carried out mass killings against Azerbaijanis in Baku, Guba, Shamakhy, Lenkeran and other cities of the country. Under the pretext of fighting against the counterrevolutionary insurgency, onMarch 31 – April 3, 1918, Bolsheviks and their Dashnak allies slaughtered over 12,000 (“New Republics in the Caucasus”, The New York Times Current History, v. 11 no. 2, March 1920, p. 492) Azeri civilians in Baku alone. These tragic events are known as the beginning of Azerbaijani Genocide. Read the rest of this entry »

Opinion of sociopolitical figures of Azerbaijan about possible opening of Turkish-Armenian borders
A number of local and Turkish mass medias have recently published articles about the soonest possible opening of state border between Armenia and Turkey.
In this connection, Day.Az has asked for opinion of local deputies and political scientists who spoke of this variant of developments:
MM deputy of ruling party, political scientist Aydin Mirzazade:
- First of all, the very publications on this topic, should be treated as newspaper articles. It means that these might be someone’s thoughts and the attempt to set up the desired for the reality. Or this may be an hoax to influence definite circles of Turkey to take the following steps. As for the very issue of opening of borders, the most difficult thing in politics is to predict. And I do not think I can predict well but if borders really open, I think the Turkish public will react duly in this case. Read the rest of this entry »
