US to continue efforts for peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict

The Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno Karabakh remains the biggest threat to the security of the region.

The statement came from US assistant ambassador in Azerbaijan Adam Sterling. He was speaking at the international conference on the role of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States in ensuring peace and security in the region.

“The resolution of this conflict cannot come from the side. Being the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, the United States want peaceful settlement of the conflict”, he noted. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Azerbaijan needs to see more active role of US in resolving Karabakh conflict’

International conference on “The role of Azerbaijan and the United States in ensuring peace and security in the region” was launched on 19 October in Baku.

The event was organized by the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan together with the Azerbaijani-American Youth Association (AAMOO).

Opening the event with his speech the head of the political analysis and information department of the Presidential Administration, Elnur Aslanov expressed hope that this event will turn into another milestone in 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan-US diplomatic relations and partnership that would lead to contributing to a solid base for achieving regional peace and security.

Italian Defense Minister comments on Karabakh

Italy attaches a great importance to settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Italy’s Minister of Defense, Admiral Giampaolo di Paola stated Wednesday during a press conference in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan.

He recalled that Italy is a member in the OSCE Minsk Group, which assists Armenia and Azerbaijan in settling the aforementioned conflict.

Macedonia dismisses reports of readiness to recognize regime of Karabakh

Turkey to continue supporting Azerbaijan’s position in Karabakh issue

Turkey has always supported the fair position of Azerbaijan on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and this will further continue.

The statement came from Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu.

“We stand for the peaceful coexistence of all nations and countries in our region, which is why the resolution of the Karabakh conflict is so essential”, Davutoglu told reporters upon arrival in Baku.

UN should intensify activity on Karabakh conflict settlement

UN should intensify its activity for the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said.

When answering the question of the Azerbaijani parliament member Asef Hajiyev, Ban Ki-Moon noted the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and acknowledged that the UN has to strengthen its activity in this direction.

Nagorno-Karabakh one of world’s ‘hot spots’ – Russian magazine

Russian scientific and political magazine Peace and Politics has published an article about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

In the article, Nagorno-Karabakh was mentioned as one of the ‘hot spots’ of the world, Gun.Az reports.

It was noted that armed conflict became massive in 1992-94. There were casualties in both sides. In 1994, an agreement on ceasefire was signed in Bishkek with mediation of Russia. But ceasefire violations are still being observed in the contact line.

Karabakh conflict should be resolved within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity

The final resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is very important for peace and stability in the Caucasus.

The statement came from Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba in an interview with Bakinskiy Rabochiy newspaper (“Baku Worker”).

According to him, Japan believes that this issue should be resolved by peaceful means on the basis of the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and inviolability of internationally recognized borders.
