Karabakh conflict must be resolved by way of peace talks – PACE President

Mignon stressed that the conflict must be resolved solely within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan on Thursday met in Strasbourg, France, with Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) President Jean-Claude Mignon.

The PACE leader gave a high assessment to Armenia’s reforms and the positive political climate, NA press service informs. He pointed specifically to the country’s reforms in the judicial system and the police force.

Aliyev meets with Hollande

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with French President François Hollande at the Elysee Presidential Palace in Paris yesterday as rival groups held demonstrations.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the extradition of Azeri officer Ramil Safarov are expected to be on the agenda at the meeting. Representatives of Turkish and Azerbaijani organizations in France rallied outside the Armenian Embassy in Paris. The protest was held in response to earlier reports of a demonstration in front of the Azerbaijani Embassy.

Armenia hosts drill as tension continues

Yerevan is welcoming 2,000 soldiers from across the ex-USSR for exercises that look set to add to the region’s already-fraught tension

The Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has launched large-scale military exercises in Armenia amid tension with Azerbaijan over Baku’s pardoning of an extradited Azerbaijani soldier who had hacked an Armenian to death.

Around 2,000 troops from Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are conducting five days of war games between Sept. 15 and 19. Read the rest of this entry »

ASAIF to hold Forum on Karabakh conflict

The Vienna Forum on “The Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict” of Azerbaijani students studying in European countries will run on 26-24 October.

The Forum will be organized by the Foreign Ministry, Youth and Sports Ministry, the Centre for Strategic Studies under the President, Azerbaijani Embassy in Austria, the Youth Foundation under the Youth and Sports Ministry, Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh Public Union and ASAIF, Gun.Az reported.

Within the Forum, our country’s officials and experts will hold discussions around the historical aspects of the conflict, legal, humanitarian and other angles of the negotiation process.
