Bernard Fassier: “It is necessary to ensure the right of Karabakh people for safe life in Nagorno Karabakh”
Today.AZ
“Currently, the security of the Karabakh people is ensured both by Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia, on par with a strong resistance from the Azerbaijani side”, said French co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group on the Karabakh conflict settlement Bernard Fassier.
”In the future there is a plan to form complex measures to ensure security of the Karabakh people and international guarantees under consent of Azerbaijan regarding these issues”, Fassier said at a press conference on Monday.
The US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Matthew Bryza noted in turn that the co-chairs have never stated the need to demilitarize the region.
“The Nagorno Karabakh people must be secured from physical influence and economic pressure, which does not mean demilitarization”, said Bryza.
“In case of existence of adequate replacement, including international guarantees of security of the Karabakh people on which the efforts of the co-chairs are aimed, the said lands can be returned”, said Fassier.
At the same time that the opinion of the Karabakh population about such approaches has not been specified yet and it is early to speak about their positions.
